October closes the summer parenthesis and gives Paris back to itself: café terraces fill with light coats, the low autumn light gilds the façades of the 9th arrondissement, and the cultural calendar picks up again in full swing. Between the horse racing at Longchamp, the vines of Montmartre, a contemporary art fair at the Grand Palais and a Halloween that spreads through the parks of the Paris region, the month offers enough to fill a Parisian getaway without ever repeating itself.

Here is our selection to help you find your way, from the very first days to the thrills of the month's end.

A start to the month between fashion and science

Paris begins October still riding the momentum of Paris Fashion Week, whose women's ready-to-wear spring-summer 2027 session runs from 28 September to 6 October 2026. The runway shows remain reserved for professionals and guests, but the buzz itself is felt in the cafés and streets; we've dedicated an article to Fashion Week for anyone wanting to understand the atmosphere and anticipate the hotel demand of the moment.

In a completely different register, the Fête de la Science celebrates its 35th edition from 2 to 12 October, on the theme “The Flavours of Scholars.” Free workshops, talks and demonstrations are held across many venues in Paris and the Île-de-France region, including the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie: an accessible and inquisitive outing, ideal for families.

The Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, racing's great rendezvous

The month's first major weekend, on 3 and 4 October 2026, sees the ParisLongchamp race meeting culminate on Sunday 4 October with the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, off at 4:05pm. This great flat race is run at the Hippodrome de ParisLongchamp, in the Bois de Boulogne (16th arrondissement). Gates open from 12pm to 8:30pm on Saturday and from 11am to 9:30pm on Sunday.

On pricing, admission starts at €10 for the Village de l'Arc and €20 for general access, rising to €60 for the Pelouse Or and €80 for the Sommet de l'Arc, excluding hospitality packages. Tickets are available through France Galop's official ticketing site.

Montmartre in celebration: the Vendanges of the 18th

From 7 to 11 October, the Fête des Vendanges de Montmartre returns for its 93rd edition, themed “The 18th Sets the Rhythm.” Five days of parades, concerts, tastings and popular street balls around the small Clos Montmartre vineyard, on the Butte and through the streets of the 18th arrondissement (place du Tertre, Halle Saint-Pierre and surrounding area). Access is free and open to all, and it's by far the event closest to the hotel: allow 10 to 15 minutes on foot from rue de Clichy, or a single metro stop. Worth keeping in mind for your stay if you're after an authentic highlight without leaving the north of Paris.

The Louvre and Art Basel: art in all its forms

From 7 October, the Louvre opens two major exhibitions in the Hall Napoléon: “Zurbarán (1598-1664),” devoted to the Spanish master of chiaroscuro, and “Sculpting Colour,” both running until 25 January 2027. In the Sully wing, “Les hôtes du Louvre” brings together Kader Attia and Elizabeth Peyton until 14 December 2026.

Two weeks later, contemporary art settles into the Grand Palais with Art Basel Paris: preview on 22 October, public days from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October 2026, 11am to 7pm. The pricing had not yet been published at the time of writing; find tickets and details on the official website.

Family Halloween in the parks

The end of the month dresses up in orange and black. Three destinations concentrate the region's festivities:

  • At Disneyland Paris (Marne-la-Vallée, RER A), the Disney Halloween Festival runs from 26 September to 1 November 2026.
  • At Parc Astérix, “Peur sur le Parc” brings the pathways to life from 3 October to 8 November 2026, with dedicated late-night openings from 7pm to 1am on select dates.
  • Closer to the centre, “Le Parc de l'Étrange” is expected to take over Parc André Citroën (15th arrondissement) from 16 to 31 October 2026, every evening, with two special evenings on the 30th and 31st (pending confirmation).

Allow a good half-day for Disneyland Paris or Parc Astérix, which are further out; Parc André Citroën, meanwhile, remains accessible by metro from the centre.

Trade shows: cars and chocolate at Porte de Versailles

Two major public shows round out the month at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. The Mondial de l'Auto opens to the public from 12 to 18 October 2026, and the Salon du Chocolat et de la Pâtisserie from 28 October to 1 November. Our tips for planning the month

  • Book early for tickets to the most sought-after ticketed events (Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Art Basel, Salon du Chocolat): official ticketing often works via timed slots.
  • For the Louvre, aim for a weekday or evening visit as soon as the exhibitions open on 7 October, ahead of the imminent school holiday rush.
  • Pair a free, nearby highlight, such as the Vendanges de Montmartre, with a further-flung outing on the same day to limit your travel.

A tailor-made Parisian getaway from the 9th

From the Hôtel R de Paris, at 41 rue de Clichy in the 9th arrondissement, most of these events are easy to reach: the Butte Montmartre is a few minutes on foot, Saint-Lazare station 7 minutes away, and lines 2 and 13 from Place de Clichy station open up the rest of the capital. Enough to build an autumn stay between heritage, contemporary art and seasonal thrills.
