Summer sales 2026 officially begin on Wednesday 24 June at 8 a.m. and end on Tuesday 21 July — four regulated weeks governed by French retail rules, with discounts that can reach up to 70% off at the end of the period. For anyone who loves shopping in Paris, this is one of the season’s key moments. And to enjoy it without stress, your choice of hotel matters just as much as your shopping strategy.

Hôtel R de Paris, in the heart of the 9th arrondissement, is less than a 15-minute walk from Paris’s two retail heavyweights: Galeries Lafayette and Printemps Haussmann. It is a rare setup: you can drop your bags at the hotel luggage room, head back out hands-free for a second round, and return to rest between fitting-room sessions. No car, no taxi, no hassle.

Galeries Lafayette and Printemps: 10 minutes on foot

Boulevard Haussmann is a 10- to 15-minute walk from the hotel — head to Saint-Lazare, then continue east along the boulevard, and you are there.

  • Galeries Lafayette Haussmann — more than 2,500 brands beneath the famous Art Deco dome: from accessible fashion to major luxury houses, Europe’s largest shoe department, Lafayette Maison for home design, and the 3rd-floor (Re)Store dedicated to second-hand fashion. The rooftop terrace makes a welcome panoramic break between fittings.
  • Printemps Haussmann — 45,000 m² of chic shopping across three buildings (Women, Men, Beauty-Home). Chanel, Hermès, Isabel Marant and Jacquemus stand alongside emerging labels. The beauty section is especially strong during the sales. 7e Ciel, the largest luxury vintage space in any department store, is not to be missed.

Both department stores usually run member-only private sales in the days leading up to 24 June — sign up for their loyalty programmes before the sales start.

The boutiques of the 9th: right on your doorstep

The other advantage of staying in the 9th during the sales is having an immediate network of independent shops and designer boutiques that also take part in markdowns — often with smaller crowds and a better selection of pieces that feel less mainstream.

  • Rue des Martyrs (5 minutes on foot) — independent fashion boutiques such as Chiffon et Basile, Des Petits Hauts, plus vintage spots. Ideal for original finds away from the rush of boulevard Haussmann.
  • SoPi (South Pigalle) — the streets around place Pigalle are full of concept stores and local designer boutiques, with sales that are often more discreet and carefully curated.
  • The covered passages (Verdeau, Jouffroy, Panoramas) — just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel, with a unique atmosphere and a handful of specialist addresses worth exploring.

Strategy: when and how to shop

The sales last four weeks, with successive markdowns. The logic is simple:

  • Week 1 (24–30 June): maximum choice, discounts of 30% to 50%. This is the right moment for standard sizes and highly sought-after pieces. Arrive at opening time (9:30–10 a.m.) — the department stores are already crowded by 11 a.m. on the first day.
  • Weeks 2 and 3: discounts of 50% to 60%, with stock becoming thinner. A good balance for pieces that are less obvious crowd-pleasers.
  • Week 4 (until 21 July): up to 70% off on the last items. The choice is more limited, but the bargains can be excellent on targeted pieces.

From the hotel, logistics stay simple: leave your purchases in the luggage room between rounds so you can head out again hands-free. At the end of the day, the fitness & spa area is the perfect pause before dinner. Tax-free shopping for non-EU visitors

Visitors living outside the European Union may be eligible for a refund of French VAT on in-store purchases above a certain amount. Galeries Lafayette and Printemps both have dedicated tax-refund counters — ask about the process from your first purchase to make things easier at the end of your visit.
